21 Nov 2017 | Capacity Shortage in Germany

We are currently experiencing continued strong demand for airfreight capacity in Germany.

From January until September 2017, Airfreight export from Germany has gone up by more than 15% as compared to same time last year, causing a series of backlogs in airfreight shipments. As a result, we remain in a capacity-deficit situation. In addition, the increased freight volume also resulted in corresponding bottlenecks in terms of personnel, equipment and handling on the part of the handling agents, as well as bottlenecks in pre-carriage to German airports where drivers are experiencing longer than usual waiting time for cargo unload at the airports.

In order to support our customers during this period, Kuehne + Nagel has made a number of full and part charter arrangements, as well as increased capacity arrangements at our gateways and hubs.

We therefore invite you to review your supply chain requirements with your Kuehne + Nagel representatives in finding capacity, alternative routing and planning solutions at the soonest. Should you also expect an increase in your freight volume, we would like to discuss this in a personal visit with you in order to find a solution as soon as possible.

In case of any further news we will keep you updated. For any questions, your known contact-persons remain at your disposal.

13 Nov 2017 | Strike in FCS Handling Facility

Please see below announcement from VER.DI Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft (German United Services Trade Union), Frankfurt Airport, Germany:

Frankfurt, 11 November 2017

In the course of ongoing negotiations of the collective, industry wide labor agreement for the Transport and Logistics Industry, the union Verdi has called out on strike at FCS Handling Facility (Frankfurt Cargo Services GmbH) on Saturday, 11th November, from 5:45 until 14:15 (early shift).

A high proportion of FCS staff on strike will impact the handling services and we have to prepare for handling delays.

Please kindly schedule deliveries of export cargo for the time after the strike wherever possible, especially for flights departing on Sunday or later.

FCS is currently handling 40 airlines among them:
• Singapore Airlines
• China Airlines
• Air China
• AirBridgeCargo
• China Eastern Airlines

At this moment Kuehne + Nagel is unable to assess the total impact of this strike action. However we estimate that a large portion of our weekend consolidation on above mentioned airlines will be affected.

In case you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us accordingly.
